Senior Unix/Linux System Administrator

Description

Design/implement complex local and wide-area networks of machines involving UNIX and LINUX. Establishes/recommends policies and procedures for system use and services. Provides the technical lead and/or supervision for system administrators, system programmers, or others. Has purchasing authority and responsibility for purchase justification. Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools. System failure analysis and recovery. Insuring the consistency and integrity of file systems. Business continuity planning. Hardware/software configuration; and management. Liaison with client offices, operations personnel, and field service personnel; interact directly with customers to negotiate solutions and implementation specifics. Technical support and general troubleshooting. Contingent on Army G1 Contract award. Work location will be moving to Ft. Belvoir.

Required Skills:

The position requires a minimum of five years of experience, three of which must be specialized technical experience. Extensive and proven experience in server architectures, storage architectures, high availability clustering, monitoring tools, backup/restore, performance tuning/capacity planning, documentation, project management, and have knowledge of best practices from large scale enterprise deployments. Possess a very strong ability to lead technical teams, discussions and projects with different teams, manage time effectively in a dynamic environment, deliver projects when expected, and apply broad expertise or technical industry. Demonstrated knowledge in solving problems that are unique and complex, given time, budget, and resource constraints, and strong analytical and problem solving skills. Experience with UNIX server administration including Redhat LINUX platform and support experience in a large UNIX environment including server management, backup/restore, performance tuning, LDAP, DNS, SAN/NAS, TCP/IP, VMWare, relational database management system, web applications and high availability clustering. Team Lead experience and excellent verbal, presentation and written communication, and must possess leadership & very strong interpersonal skills, team building skills. Must be certified in LINUX Redhat.

Education and Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related scientific or computer field.
  • Must be certified in LINUX Redhat.
